Dell 960GB 2.5-inch SATA 6Gbps SSD

This is a 960GB 2.5-inch SATA SSD on a 6Gbps SATA interface.

Dell-labelled drives carry Dell firmware, which is what PowerEdge RAID controllers expect to see. It is meant for PowerEdge servers and PowerVault arrays with 2.5-inch SATA bays. A SATA SSD is a straightforward upgrade for boot volumes, virtual machine storage and read-heavy databases. As a mixed use drive it is rated for a balance of reads and writes. SATA drives run from SATA ports and from most server RAID controllers and host bus adapters. Replacement drives should match the array they join in capacity, speed and interface. A drive needs the tray or caddy that matches the server generation to sit in a hot-plug bay. In a hot-plug bay with a redundant RAID level, a failed disk can usually be swapped while the server keeps running. Once a replacement is fitted, the RAID controller rebuilds the array onto it, and larger drives take longer to rebuild. Keeping a spare drive per array shortens the time an array runs degraded after a failure.

Certified refurbished condition: the drive is inspected, bench-tested and data-wiped in Johannesburg.
