It needs a SAS controller or HBA, and it negotiates down to 6Gbps on older SAS controllers. When replacing a failed disk, match the capacity, speed and interface of the drives already in the array. It is meant for PowerEdge servers and PowerVault arrays with 2.5-inch SAS bays. A drive needs the tray or caddy that matches the server generation to sit in a hot-plug bay. In a hot-plug bay with a redundant RAID level, a failed disk can usually be swapped while the server keeps running.
