Dell 1.2TB 2.5-inch 10K SAS 12Gbps Hard Drive

Here is a 1.2TB hard drive for 2.5-inch SAS bays, made by Seagate. It spins at 10K rpm and connects at 12Gbps.

As a Dell-labelled drive it carries Dell firmware, matching what PowerEdge servers and PowerVault arrays are set up to use. A drive needs the tray or caddy that matches the server generation to sit in a hot-plug bay. In an existing array, keep new disks at the same capacity, speed and interface as their neighbours. A SAS host bus adapter or RAID controller is required; older 6Gbps SAS controllers run it at their own, lower link rate. Performance-class 10K disks sit between nearline drives and flash, which makes them a common choice for mixed application arrays. Parity RAID levels set aside space for redundancy, so size arrays on usable capacity rather than the sum of the drives. Keeping a spare drive per array shortens the time an array runs degraded after a failure. After a swap the controller rebuilds the data onto the new drive; the bigger the drive, the longer that takes. Dell-labelled drives are intended for PowerEdge servers and PowerVault arrays with 2.5-inch SAS bays.
