Four-socket HPE, and why there is no DL580 Gen11
Buyers shopping a big four-socket HPE box in 2026 hit an odd gap in the catalogue: the DL580 skipped Gen11 entirely. Here is how the four-socket options actually line up.

What this means for a buyer
- There is no DL580 Gen11. HPE went DL580 Gen10 → DL580 Gen12. Any listing for a "DL580 Gen11" is a mislabelled Gen10 or Gen12 — verify the QuickSpecs before quoting.
- Need modern four-socket density? The DL560 Gen11 puts four Sapphire Rapids sockets and up to 16TB of DDR5 into 2U — half the rack height of a DL580 — ideal for heavy consolidation and large VM estates. Note it is 4th-Gen-Xeon-only (no 5th Gen).
- Need maximum scale-up / in-memory (SAP HANA-class)? That is the 4U DL580 Gen12 (Xeon 6, up to 48 drive bays) when new, or a DL580 Gen10 when the budget favours refurb.
- DDR5 vs DDR4 is the clean dividing line: DL560 Gen11 and DL580 Gen12 are DDR5/PCIe 5; the DL580 Gen10 is DDR4/PCIe 3.
